TN3270 Connection (Printer Session)

IP Host Name
This is the name, or IP address, of the host computer to connect to. If a text string is entered the TCP/IP protocol will translate it into an IP address.  The IP address number can also be entered directly. Both IPv4 and IPv6 are supported.

TCP Port
The default value for this parameter is 23. Normally, this number is only changed for security purposes.

Timeout (sec)
This value designates the number of seconds to wait for a host connection. If a connection is not made within this time period and there are alternate back-up IP Host Names configured in the  Advanced tab, then an attempt to connect to those IP Host Names will be made.

Auto Reconnect
If this option is enabled, PASSPORT will try to reestablish a session with the host if that session times out or is unexpectedly disconnected or if the host is down when trying to connect. PASSPORT will attempt to reconnect after first waiting for 1 second, then 5, 10, 15, 20, 25 seconds, and then 30 seconds thereafter between each attempt until a connection is established. This helps reduce network traffic. Once PASSPORT successfully connects to the host, the reconnection value will be reset to 1 second again. If the host printer session is terminated by the host, the host printer session will be automatically reconnected. If this option is not enabled and the host printer session is terminated by the host, you will have to manually reconnect the printer session using the Communication->Disconnect and Communication->Connect menu commands.

Telnet Device Type Override
This text entry provides the ability to override the device type string. For a TN3270E printer session the default telnet device type is IBM-3287-1.

Host Code Page
Select the appropriate host code page that is used by the host computer system. This selection determines the translation tables used to convert text characters between the host and the PC. The default is 1140 for US/Canada with Euro support.

Generic
This is used to connect to a random printer session selected from an unnamed pool of LU's.  Although you can use a Generic LU connection to establish a TN3270E printer session, it is not recommended because it is difficult for the host application to know which printer it is printing to.

Specific
This allows connections to a specific named LU pool, or to a specific dedicated printer LU. A dedicated LU is basically an LU pool with a single LU in the pool. If you select the Specific option, you must also enter the Resource Name that corresponds to the name of the dedicated LU or LU pool.

Associated
This allows a printer connection to a dedicated LU pair that contain both display or printer LU definitions. The printer session is connected to the printer LU definition. If you select the Associated option, you must also enter the Resource Name that corresponds to the name of the dedicated LU pair. Associated LUs can be used to ease the configuration burden of the mainframe TN3270E administrator when both display and printer sessions are required by the end-user.

Resource Name
This is the device or pool name used to identify and establish a connection to a specific LU, LU pool or associate LU. Your system administrator must give you the correct information to enter here.

TN3270 Non-SNA Command Chaining
Enable this option if connecting thru a Visara controller. The Visara controller requires the TN3270 client to do the 3270 command chaining required by Non-SNA Master Console operation. If not connecting thru a Visara controller, this option should be disabled.
